My favourite evenings begin without a rush: something good to eat, a little music, and a conversation with its own rhythm. I’m drawn to calm rooms, good books, and conversations that arrive slowly. I like getting ready with a sense of occasion, but never to the point where it feels like work. I like directness with warmth; honesty is easier to enjoy that way. I enjoy my own rhythm and I’m drawn to people who have one of their own. The best atmosphere lets a pause feel natural and a change of subject feel welcome. I prefer a little breathing room in the schedule; rushing hides the interesting parts. I like leaving a little room for the person I meet to add something unexpected. That sort of ease is hard to fake.
